In Engine -Build Up ,we had to Magna Flux all the bolts that held the R-4360 engine to the power pack. The red dye showed the cracks or bad ,deep scratches in the bolts

Being an alum of Sampson, I recently came across a book written about Sampson. The book title is "The Sampson AFB Story-Portal To Power." I ordered it, and received it in about one week. Great service. I read the book from front to back and found a lot of things about Sampson that I did not know. I liked the way the book went through year by year. Inside the back cover is a pocket containing a map of Sampson AFB. Lots of detail in it. The book is well worth the price and a must for anyone that spent time at Sampson.

Remembered that red dye we used on J-33s and J-35s on F-89s at Presque Isle AFB, Me., 55-58, real well Jim, I'm an old 43250. Thats when you took the engine apart and fixed it instead of "remove and replace". Times have changed like getting real math in schools, all computers now.

Yeah, that's it, Magna Flux. We were there when the strut was removed and replaced. I think they did it at the same time, that is replaced it with another strut that had already been checked. We didn't get to go to the shop to see it done.

TJ, i was at robins late '71 early '72. i was at AFRES headquarters as a computer programmer..when i got there from "nam the first thing i told my new boss was, "I'm not stayin' here long" one yr later i was transferred to Gunter, and retired here in '74. While at Robins i was a night manager at the NCO club. I also met my wife while working part time at the Holiday Inn. Warner Robins is her home town and she still has family there. I've been back a few times and don't recognize much any more.
