I was station at Niagra Falls Air Force for my time in the service. I was a medic for those years and my rank was a corporal (A/c). My unit was 15th USAF Infirmary. I would like to meet my old veterans station in Niagra Falls.

56 years ago today, I enlisted in the Air Force at the tender age of (2 days past) 17! The date: August 17, 1954. The place: Syracuse, NY. What a ride! From Sampson AFB, my career took off! Totally enjoyable! When people asked me where I worked, I shuddered...it was too much fun! I never thought of it as work! 27 years later, I retired in the grade of CMSgt from Randolph AFB, Texas. Have remained in Texas ever since! Would I do it over again? In a hearbeat! What a ride! Oh, I said that before, didn't I? Cheers, all! :)

ed: the key word in that USA article was AVERAGE pay. today the ranks are top heavy with extra stripes, etc that wasn't heard of in the 50's...rightfully so, since there is great need for highly tech trainned to support this modern equip. when i read the article it appeared to me that officers were included in those values? maybe i jumped to that conclusion? today if you have a staff sgt and a general riding in a cab, the average pay for the two is a big value! doesn't help the s/sgt much.. i'm glad we are paying the troops better! they deserve it.

Ed : Was it that much . They issued us ODs and when they issued us the blues they took it out of our pay . Of course cost of living was a lot less back then but still quite a difference now .
