Ralph-O-Rooney ... It started way back there, Brother Ralphie... I carried a guy from the E. R. to X-ray at Sampson. He had a very obviously broken leg. I asked him how he happened to have injured his leg so badly. He told me that he had been playing a sort of pick-up football game and "...a cat hit me!" Well. I could not imagine that some sort of kitty-cat hit him on the leg at high speed and managed to break his bones. So I asked him, "What are you telling me? Some sort of kitty cat zoomed in on your leg at high speed and smashed your bones?" He replied, "A cat, man - a cat! Ain't you hip?" Ralphie - What I am saying is "It ain't nothing new." ;-)

My wife was baby sitting my 3 early-mid teen granddaughters last nite, they were watching the Disney Channel, and I was listening in. Is it me being slow of listening, or do teeny boppers talk fast these days?

Back in the late 50s I remember that our B-47s were grounded until the main struts could be checked for cracks. That involved the removal of at least the front main and that was done on the ramp. They had to be coated with a substance that was attracted to a crack when an electric currant was applied. If I'm wrong about the procedure let me know since it was done without us mechanics present.

If I remember correctly, the only time the B47's at McConnell were in the hanger was for periodic inspections and strut seal replacement when we had to jack the planes...everything else was on the flightline and some in nose docks, such as rigging the flaperons.

i remember that all the c-119's had to have the landing gear sta fluxed periodically and retracted in the hangar...must have had a marginal design? i wonder if the USAF was abit like GE. we had a beautiful lab that everybody wanted to see so we didn't like to have any "messy work" going on!!
