Phil, at Altus AFB the only time our aircraft were in a hanger was for post flight inspection. At Dyess I can't remember my aircraft ever being in a hanger, all maintenance was done on the flight line. The hangers at Altus were built for B-52s that had yet to arrive, they did after we were transferred to Dyess.

Before I joined the AF, I was under the illusion that aircraft repairs were done in a hangar. Life @ Osan taught me differently-- there were no hangars. There were hangars @ Langley, but most repairs were done on the ramp, so my question to you OLD timers, what was needed to get an aircraft into a hangar?

speaking of safety wire...try to solder an electric lead wire to a pin near the center of a large Cannon Plug w/o unsoldering an adjacent wire on the plug... we couldn't get "crimp-on wire terminals" from supply. i remember going to a sister squadron shop and stealing spare terminals from them. think it was called "midnight requsistion"..can't spell anymore!

Wilford .... Yep, the safety wire pliers twisted it for you. In the beginning at Newcastle all we had were duckbills, needle nose, and dikes. When the new pliers arrived we had to be careful not to twist too tight or QC would come along and happily snip away so we could do it all over again. Bill .... Originally I got the pleasure of doing the wiring by hand too .... Wasn't it fun getting jabbed and having little, bloody holes on yor fingers and hands so the JP could clean them out? Oh yeah, skinned knuckles too.

I still have my safety wire pliers and a roll of.30 safety wire in my tool kit. We did have to wire by hand until they came out with pliers. I believe it was 6 turns per inch., with the pig tails turned back to prevent getting cut on them. All the electronic equipment on the plane was to be safety-wired in their respected mounts. If not done right, quality control would ding us for it. Good ole SAC and the MSET team. Sure do miss that!!!!!!! NOT..See you at the reunion
