i'll take jp 4 over hydraulic fluid dripping down my elbows in freezing weather in wichita any day....loved those days of changing an aileron power packs in 40 knot winds. Or crawling in the forward wheel well to change an accumulator. y'all are making me homesick

Hey Bill, if you run into a braggart pile-it, ask him where he keeps his roadmap, did this with a commercial pile-it once and he turned three shades of red.

Great postings, Good Friends... and to Dave Valler (as to those folks paying the restaurant bill...) When I was going to isotope school with the Navy folks at Bethesda, MD, a bunch of us went out one weekend to a basement supper club in DC. It just happened that the Democrat party was rewarding some of its operatives from various locales to a sort of celebration deal in Washington, but this was evidently one of the night's off for that thing. Anyway, there was one of the "leftover" ops at the basement supper club. The Navy guys and I were all at one table and, looking over at this fellow, he looked sad and lonely. We invited him to join us. Talk about a guy going from sad to instant happy! We all had a grand good time, yakking about all sorts of stuff, including the AF, the Navy, the isotope school, VietNam, and on and on. When we went to pay our bill, which at that hour in the early morning had become pretty sizeable, we found that he and the Democrat Party (via his expense account) had already paid it... and we were going to pay for his stuff, too. Not to be forgotten, right Dave?

i was in a maintance squadron at Sewart AFB outside nashville before going overseas. we had what i remembered as a large hanger that you could get 3 C-119's inside.. as most USAF hangers, it was kept spotless. the base closed in late 60's or 70's. once i passed there on a business trip so got off I-24 and pulled into the base area. the streets were unchanged. the hangers were used by civilian companies. our old hanger was used by Continital AL for maintance. i asked in the office if i could enter the hanger and look around. an employee escorted me around.(he ended up asking me if i would be interested in a job) the hanger floor was dirty and used old parts were all over. our old line chief would" turn over" if he saw it! it was really great to see again where i spent about 18 months working. and the hanger still appeared as large as i remembered!

Now Phil, you know we can't tell all our secrets, too many pilots that flew our planes are still out there reading this stuff!

I can tell you this Phil, JP-4 will make you higher than a kite. I had to do some maintenance on the bomb bay fuel cell that had a leak. That meant unlacing it from the airframe and crawling in between the fuel cell and airframe. Even with a blower bringing in fresh air, just a few minutes was all it took. Of course JP-4 had other uses like cleaning the outside of the aircraft off before the flight crew saw it had a hydraulic leak, or in the case of that guy on Guam...oh well we'll leave that one alone.

Yeah Phil, there's nothing like the JP running down your neck when the hose is loosened from the JFC-12 (Jet Fuel Control.) It was on the bottom of the engine and was joyous to remove and replace. Then too it was always fun skidding around in the puddle and watching the rubber on your brogan soles slowly swell and come loose. We used to sew them back on with safety wire until the boss caught us and ran us off to the store for new ones. All in all. JP-4 was almost like fine wine to us wrenches.

Hey guys [A&E, Jet techs] I've heard that oil, JP-4, and Avgas is addictive, and that after a few days of working on the line you need a daily shot, or squirt in the mouth/eye/nose with such fluids to calm the nerves. Any truth to that?

I thought some of you would like to hear this . A handfull of us Sampson Vets were having a get to gether for coffee and breakfast last week .A young couple sat at a nearby table and were able to hear our conversations . They left . When we went to pay our bill the waitress said it had been taking care of .It's not so much paying for our meal as it was saying thak you for your service . It left a good feeling on all of us .
