Almost 3,000 acres on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake have been home to the Seneca Indians, farmers, Navy boot training center, junior college, state psychiatric center, Air Force basic training center, state park - and soon-to-beNational Military Cemetery. We call this place Sampson! Sampson Air Force Base ( 1950-56 ), where approximately 330,,000 basic airmen were trained, and her veterans association and museum are the focus of this book. |
Author and Association Historian, Jerry Hopfengardner, chronicles the history of this land from the pre-historic era through2006. The approximately 300 page 8-˝ x 11 history book contains some 140 photos and a 15 x 30 fold-out map of the base. The documented history is enriched by anecdotal accounts by people who were related to the mission of the then second largest USAF basic training installation. |
The Second Edition contains numerous updates and revisions from the First Edition |
All proceeds from sales of both the First and Second Editions go to the on-going mission of the Sampson Air Force Base Veterans Association. This is the authors contribution to perpetuating the rich Sampson Air Force Base tradition. |
Due to inflation and, as you are all aware, the price of gas, we need to increase the cost of the book to $30.00. The price increase will go into effect upon the mailing of the June 2007 Roll Call. |
