Long Island New York

The Long Island Sampson AFB Vets squadron was formed on May 29, 2008 at a luncheon at the 56th Fighter Squadron Restaurant with 53 vets in attendance.
Six of the men were at Sampson when it was a Naval Training Center in the 1940's. Forty six were there in the 1950's when it was known as Sampson Air Force Base and one was there in the 1960's as a park supervisor when it became Sampson State Park. Most of them did not know each other before the luncheon. All in all everyone had a great time. Many exchanged phone numbers.

Harvey Reibel LM 3818, LI Squadron Commander.

Activities

Luncheon/Meeting was held on Wednesday October 15, 2008

The Long Island Squadron luncheon/meeting was held on Wednesday Oct. 15, 2008 at the 56th Fighter Group Restaurant, in Farmingdale, Long Island. It was a great success. Among the attendees were 2 Navy men and a young lady who was born at Sampson in 1952.

Due to the unexpected arrival of kidney stones, I had to be hospitalized for a few days and Rich Naughton, the Vice Commander, took over for me. He did an OUTSTANDING job.

It was decided that the squadron will meet every 4 months. The next luncheon will be held in February 2009.
